Building on five years of subgrant partnerships and over fifty years of science-based food and health advocacy, the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) is pleased to announce a new round of partners as part of the Food Policy Catalyst initiative. Recognizing the power of community-based partnerships to shape and drive state and local policy and hold food corporations to account, we reinvest philanthropic funds to accomplish this critical work. Food Policy Catalyst partners include 21 organizations spanning 15 states who are activating change from their local neighborhoods to the national level.
The campaigns supported by Food Policy Catalyst partners are focused on industry accountability – holding corporations responsible for the negative health impacts of food and beverage products and marketing tactics – and state and local policy – advocating for programs and policies such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), child nutrition, state-level taxes on sweetened beverages, values-aligned food procurement in public institutions, and food and beverage labeling and marketing. Powerbuilding partners participate in a peer learning cohort that strengthens the power of people experiencing the greatest inequities and builds the capacity of organizations to address unique food system challenges in their communities.
In addition to financial support via subgrants, CSPI is committed to building the capacity of partners on a wide array of topics relevant to their campaigns and organizations, and offering the Resource Hub, a community learning and networking space for food and health advocates. According to Anupama Joshi, CSPI's Vice President of Programs, "the power in partnerships mantra always holds true, but is even more relevant and necessary in the current political environment. Together, we can navigate challenges, share best practices and elevate common messaging and tactics to improve the food environment for communities across the country."
